dPen – The Path Out Now from Indigo Records Records
dPen is one of the most well producers in the talent rich Greek dance music scene. Yannis Pennas aka dPen has seen his productions showcased on some of the most influential imprints around including: Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings, Silence Through Music and Hyline Music to name just a few. This week finds dPen making his first appearance on Australia’s premier progressive house label Indigo Records. dPen’s ‘The Path’ represents the Greek producers debut for Indigo and it comes with remixes from: Deepfunk and Checkor.
‘The Path’ showcases dPen’s unique and intelligent progressive style perfectly. The dark challenging rhythms, unique fresh sound design and killer dance floor energy are all present in abundance on ‘The Path’. The tough beats, chugging low end and techy percussion lay the framework down wonderfully. As a plethora of unique electronics and waning synths work their way into the mix you truly get that ‘lost in sound’ effect. Killer stuff from dPen.
It goes without saying that Deepfunk has been one of the hottest producers over the course of 2011. Malcolm Abdilla aka Deepfunk was announced as the winner of the Bedrocks Records / Marco Bailey remix competition earlier this year and has seen many of his productions championed by John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J. Outings on Cid Inc’s Replug label and Silence Through Music have raised the Maltese producers profile even further and here he makes his debut for Indigo with the first remix of ‘The Path’. Deepfunk’s now irresistible hypnotic vibe melds itself with the elements from dPen’s original perfectly. The effortless flow of Deepfunk’s productions is absolutely remarkable, every single element and part works together perfectly. It’s another trippy melodic haze that Malcolm has conjured up here and by our accounts it’s one of his coolest productions this year.
Closing the package out with the final remix is a relatively new producer by the name of Checkor. Costas Mitsopoulos aka Checkor hails from Greece and has appeared on System, Stripped Digital and Fluxus over the last year, he has also seen his productions earn support from: Sasha, Dimitri Nakov, Laurent Garnier, Deepfunk and Dibby Dougherty. Checkor’s ‘The Path’ remix is bang on the money. Really fresh, spacey sounds with a nice texture to them fill the air above a pulsating bassline with groove to spare. It’s a brooding vibe that’s quite appealing and it’s cool trippy nature rounds the package out perfectly. Release Promo Hype Chart #2
